Optimism is not merely a disposition; it is a way of life that illuminates the path through trials and tribulations of life. Defined as the belief in a positive outcome, optimism serves as a guiding light that empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of existence with resilience, hope, and unwavering determination. The renowned author, Helen Keller once remarked, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.” This sentiment encapsulates the transformative power of optimism in shaping one’s life journey. Optimistic individuals possess a steadfast belief in their ability to overcome obstacles and achieve their aspirations, regardless of the challenges they may encounter along the way. They view setbacks not as roadblocks but as opportunities for growth and learning, embodying the words of poet William Ernest Henley, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” Optimism breeds resilience, enabling individuals to bounce back from adversity with renewed vigour and determination. Psychologist Martin Seligman emphasizes the importance of optimism in building psychological resilience. He asserts, “Optimism is invaluable for a meaningful life. With a firm belief in a positive future, individuals can weather life’s storms and emerge stronger and more resilient than before.”Moreover, optimism fosters a sense of gratitude and appreciation for life’s blessings, no matter how small. As bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert observes, “Optimism is the faith that leads to gratitude. Gratitude is the foundation of abundance.” By cultivating an optimistic outlook, individuals cultivate a sense of abundance and fulfilment, finding joy in life’s everyday moments and cherishing the journey itself. In conclusion, optimism is a transformative force that empowers individuals to embrace life’s challenges with resilience, hope, and gratitude. Through the lens of optimism, life becomes not merely a series of obstacles to overcome but a journey filled with endless possibilities and opportunities for growth and fulfilment.

District Headquarters Hospital,

Subject: Request for Adequate Supply of Medicines in the Emergency Ward

Respected Sir,

I write with the intent of bringing your kind attention to the grave matter of the insufficient supply of medicines in the emergency ward of our district hospital. As you are aware, the emergency ward plays a critical role in providing immediate medical assistance to patients in urgent need. However, it has come to our attention that the current stock of essential medicines in the emergency ward is inadequate to meet the needs of our patients effectively. This shortage of medicines is causing inconvenience and distress to both patients and the medical staff.

To ensure prompt and efficient medical care for all patients, the emergency ward must be adequately stocked with essential medicines at all times. Therefore, I seek your urgent intervention to address this issue by replenishing the stock of medicines in the emergency ward without further delay. Furthermore, I would like to suggest implementing a system for regular monitoring of medicine stocks in the emergency ward to prevent such exigency to happen in future. This will help ensure uninterrupted medical care and enhance the overall efficiency of our hospital services.

I trust that you will give prompt attention to this matter and take the necessary steps to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Yours truly,

Subject: The Significant Role of Electronic Media in Promoting Moral and Social Values

Honorable Sir,

I am writing to express my thoughts on the significant role that electronic media can play in shaping and promoting moral and social values in our society.

In today’s fast-paced world, electronic media, including television, radio, and the internet, have become powerful platforms for disseminating information and influencing public opinion. While electronic media is often criticized for its sensationalism and focus on entertainment, it also serves as a vital tool for creating awareness about moral and social issues that are pertinent to our society.

One of the most commendable aspects of electronic media is its ability to reach a wide and diverse audience across territorial boundaries. Through television programs, documentaries, talk shows, and social media platforms, electronic media has the potential to raise awareness about various social issues such as gender equality, human rights, environmental conservation, and cultural diversity. Furthermore, electronic media plays a crucial role in challenging stereotypes and promoting tolerance and inclusivity in society. By showcasing diverse perspectives and highlighting the stories of marginalized communities, electronic media can foster empathy and understanding among individuals from different backgrounds. Moreover, electronic media acts as a catalyst for social change by providing a platform for dialogue and discussion on pressing moral and ethical issues. Through debates, interviews, and investigative journalism, electronic media encourages critical thinking and reflection among its audience, thereby prompting them to question existing norms and values in society.

In conclusion, I believe that electronic media has a vital role to play in promoting moral and social values in our society. By leveraging its reach and influence, electronic media can inspire positive change and contribute to the development of a more compassionate and socially responsible community.

Yours sincerely,
X.Y.Z.

(Q)No. 8 Make a Precis of the following passage and suggest a suitable title. (20 marks)

John Lock reflects the new situation in England more than ever when he goes on to argue that the reason men come together to live in a society, with laws, is for the preservation of their property. Since men are driven into society, it follows that the power of that society ‘can never be suffered to extend further than the common good. And this common good can only be determined by standing laws, statues, that all are aware of and agree to, and not by extemporary degrees of, say, an absolute sovereign. Moreover, these laws must be administered ‘by indifferent and upright judges’. Only In this way can the people (and rulers) know where they are.

In an important amendment to the idea of absolute monarchy, Lock said that the king can never suspend the law. Finally, Lock gave voice to the main anxiety of the rising commercial classes in England (fear of something which they saw happening in France, in state intervention in trade), that no power can take from a man his property without his consent.

A soldier may be commanded by a superior in all things, save the disposal of his property. In the same way, a man has property in his own person, meaning that a man’s labour is his property too. The most important consequence of this, Lock says is that people can be taxed only with their consent. (We recognize this now in the doctrine of ‘No taxation without representation.

Precis

John Locke expresses the evolving English societal landscape by asserting that individuals form societies enact laws primarily to safeguard their property. He emphasizes that the authority of society should not surpass the common good, determined by established and agreed-upon laws, administered by impartial judges. Contrary to absolute monarchy, Locke contends that kings cannot suspend laws. He echoes the concerns of emerging commercial classes, particularly regarding state intervention in trade, highlighting the inviolability of property rights without consent. Locke extends property to include a person’s labour, affirming that taxation requires consent, a principle echoed in the slogan, “No taxation without representation.”

Suitable Title:  Preservation of Property: Locke’s Social Contract

(Q)No. 9: Translate the Following Passage into English. (15 marks)

If the world doesn’t attract you towards itself, if tears come to your eyes out of fear of God, if the thought of hell instils fear of God in you, if you worship Allah as it should be done, if goodness appeals to you and you refrain from walking on the path of evil, then you are righteous. Some are righteous, some become righteous. Being righteous is a matter of fortune. Becoming righteous is a continuous process of purification and striving. It takes time and requires enduring hardships as well.
